Onlay: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

Onlay is one of the municipalities in the Natura 2000 area “Prairies, landes sèches et ruisseaux de la vallée de la Dragne et de la Maria”. The ZNIEFF “Bassin de la Dragne et de la Maria” includes Onlay and a dense network of springs, seepage areas, streams, wet meadows and rivers. The Dragne watercourse is one of the bodies of water in Onlay.

History and Culture

The parish of Onlay has been documented since 1030. The church in Onlay was probably built in the 15th century and was probably constructed on the site of a pagan temple; its existence was presumably connected with hot springs.

The Château de Thard was a former fief of the Duke of Nevers. Niault was a former fortified house and was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century. Lesvault had existed since the 17th century; a second building was constructed in the 19th century on the present-day road.

The Association “Les Gouttes Culturelles” in Onlay aims to organise and promote artistic, cultural and festive events.

Le vieux château de Levault is now surrounded by high walls; the property can be viewed from the outside.
