Culture

Luzy’s surviving fortifications include the wall along Rue des Fossés and two restored defensive towers dating from the 15th century. The former Château des Seigneurs de Luzy on Rue du Rempart is a fortified castle dating from the 14th century. The Tour des Barons is the only surviving remnant of the former Château de Luzy. The tower, which dates from the 14th century, houses a museum about the lives of the local population and old agricultural equipment.

The Luzy town hall’s ceremonial hall displays eight Aubusson tapestries depicting the biblical story of Esther. The tapestries date from the first quarter of the 18th century and were made from wool and silk using a tapestry-weaving technique used in Aubusson. They were classified as historic monuments in 1903. Visits to the tapestry hall are organised through the town hall secretariat; additional access is available during the Heritage Days.

The Musée des machines agricoles is located on Rue Lafond and is an exhibition venue run by the Les vieilles mécaniques association. The Musée du Moulin preserves numerous elements and mechanisms of the mill to illustrate the authenticity of the site; its scenography combines the past and the present. In summer, the Comité Patrimoine Culture et Tourisme Luzycois welcomes visitors to the Tour des Barons.

Events

Luzy’s Fête du violon (Cordes en folie) festival combines traditional fiddle practices from France and around the world with contemporary, older, current and traditional music. The Fête de l’accordéon (Soufflets en fêtes) is open to everyone and offers concerts, dances, workshops and other events focused on traditional music.

Nature and trails

The Sentier de l’Alène is a 2-km family circular trail starting at Place de l’Église and following the River Alène, and is suitable for children. Information panels provide details about the river and its surroundings; there are also play areas and a fitness trail. The route is free of charge and can be walked independently at any time.

Luzy and the surrounding area offer numerous hiking and mountain-biking trails in a well-preserved natural environment. Electric bicycles can be rented to explore Luzy and its surroundings. A mountain-bike route entitled “GTMC, Étang–Luzy–Étang” leads to Luzy and onwards to Cuzy and its pond.
