History

The Château de Champallement is believed to have existed as early as around 1025; traces of older building structures have been preserved in it. It was built on a rocky spur opposite the road to Brinon. The château is privately owned.

The Roman camp at Champagne-Manoir is a Gallo-Roman military relic from the 3rd century. It is located in the municipality of Champallement in the Nièvre department and was classified as a Monument historique by order dated 16 July 1976. The archaeological remains at the site of Les Mèges in Champallement are classified as a Gallo-Roman cultural heritage site.

Culture

Champallement has a church or parish dedicated to Saint Eustace. The Church of Saint Eustache features a nave with two bays dating from the late 11th century and a square entrance portal from the 13th century.

The Gallo-Roman site of Compierre is located in the forest north of the ruins of a Gallo-Roman vicus. The archaeological site of Compierre has a circular trail of less than two kilometres. Compierre can be explored with the “IONO” app.
