Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Symphorien was built at the beginning of the 13th century, is classified as a historic monument and has been restored. The Church of Saint-Denis houses an organ dating from 1878, built by the famous organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll.
The Musée de Nuits-Saint-Georges is housed in a former wine house and contains archaeological collections in its large vaulted cellars, most of which originate from discoveries at the Les Bolards archaeological site. It also displays objects discovered during excavations in the canton of Nuits, including a remarkable Merovingian assemblage.
The prominent building on the Place de la République is classified as a historic monument. Until 1833, the prominent building housed the town hall of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Wine and Regional Culture
Since 1961, the Hospices de Nuits wine sale has provided an opportunity every year to meet winegrowers from Nuits-Saint-Georges, learn about their work and taste their wines. The Cassissium is a museum devoted entirely to blackcurrants.
Redesigned in 2018, the square pays tribute to the Climats of the Burgundy wine-growing region, particularly some of the 41 Nuits-Saint-Georges plots classified as Premier Cru.
Discoveries on Site
From May to October, the Musée de Nuits-Saint-Georges offers free guided tours of its current temporary exhibition, its archaeological collections or the Les Bolards archaeological site. Nuits-Saint-Georges has a signposted walking tour that passes all the municipality's important sites.
A guided tour takes visitors through the remains of the Gallo-Roman settlement at the Les Bolards archaeological site and presents some of its treasures. The Voie des Vignes is a cycle path that runs from Dijon via Nuits-Saint-Georges and continues south to Beaune and Santenay.
