Canton of Nolay: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nolay lies at the bottom of the Cosanne Valley and offers views of vineyards, agricultural land and forests. The historic centre features a continuous ensemble of houses dating from the 15th to the 17th century. The GR 7 also crosses Nolay from north to south, passing through the town centre.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Martin in Nolay displays building phases from the 16th to the 19th century and has a 38-metre-high Gothic spire. The Halles de Nolay are also among the notable buildings: they were built in 1388 and are considered among the oldest surviving buildings of their kind in France. Their four-sided roof is covered with Burgundian lava stone or limestone slabs.

The Musée d’histoire et de paléontologie is accessible only as part of a guided tour. The Nocturnes Théâtrales are a playful tour during which historical figures from Nolay are introduced; around ten theatrical scenes are planned, involving approximately fifty volunteers.

Nature and Trails

The ZNIEFF Cirque du Bout du Monde encompasses Nolay. The area features limestone cliffs, wooded slopes and a wooded valley basin with a tufa waterfall.

The Sentier Jean Marc Boivin is a 49-kilometre sporting hiking trail with 1,500 metres of ascent. It runs between Nolay, La Rochepot and the Maranges vineyards. Nolay’s hiking options also include a map with 31 marked routes.

La Voie des Vignes runs from Nolay to Chagny along the route of a former railway line and is accessible to everyone.

Discoveries Along the Way

The Balade de Nolay is a two-kilometre circular walk that can be completed independently. Nolay, le nez en l’air is a playful discovery tour lasting approximately one hour. A questionnaire helps participants identify the locations in the town where photographs were taken.
