Nature
The Natura 2000 site “Bois Noirs” is divided into 16 sections. It is located in the mid-mountain region and encompasses various habitats of Community interest, including predominantly beech forest habitats, different types of peatlands and wet meadows.
The Tourbière du Sapey is located in the Bois Noirs massif in the municipality of Saint-Victor-Montvianeix and is one of the sources of the Credogne, a tributary of the Allier. It comprises a succession of small ombrotrophic hummocks, wooded peatlands, minerotrophic birch bogs and a pine forest area that is more open on the hummocks.
Culture and history
The wayside cross of Montvianeix is located in the Montvianeix district of the municipality of Saint-Victor-Montvianeix. It dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and was classified as a historic monument by decree of 14 October 1911.
Circular trails
The Le puy de Montoncel circular trail is 12 km long, has a stated duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes, and follows former salt-smugglers’ paths from the 17th and 18th centuries. It can be accessed via the area by the La Lizolle bus shelter in Saint-Victor-Montvianeix.
The Circuit n°25 – Le barrage de la Muratte circular trail is 10.4 km long and open every day year-round, provided weather conditions are favourable.
