The Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in La Chapelle-Geneste features a calotte and five windows in the choir. Its furnishings include a carved, white-painted and gilded altarpiece from the 17th or early 18th century. A seated Black Madonna made of gilded and polychrome wood stands in a niche.

The Black Madonna has been listed as a movable cultural heritage object since 10 February 1983. It is dated to the 18th century; its black finish and gilding were added in the 19th century. The original church may date from the 12th century.

The Abbaye Saint-Robert de la Chaise-Dieu is located in the immediate vicinity of La Chapelle-Geneste. The Château de Saint-Bonnet-le-Chastel is situated in the surrounding area. The Basilique Saint-Julien de Brioude and the Église Saint-Georges are located in the wider regional area. Near La Chapelle-Geneste there is also the Viaduc de Marlanges, a curved railway viaduct with a height of 16 metres, a length of 135 metres and nine arches.

Hiking and traditions

The PR109 La Senouire hiking trail leads to La Chapelle-Geneste and points there to the village church. The pilgrimage to Saint Roch takes place every year on 16 August.

Landscape

The Bois de Lamandy, a mountain in the area around La Chapelle-Geneste, is located there, as are La Garde and the Roche de Chantelauze, two other mountains in the same area. The Pic de Combenière, a mountain, is also located in the wider regional area of La Chapelle-Geneste.

The entire municipal area of La Chapelle-Geneste was included in the Parc naturel régional du Livradois-Forez for twelve years from the publication of the decree of 25 July 2011.
