Thiézac: Holiday apartments and houses

Thiézac reveals its special character where nature and history come together directly: the Gorges du Pas de Cère were carved into volcanic rock by a glacier, and the Cère River flows through the gorge. The area around Pas de Cère is classified as an Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) because of its fauna and flora, including the Eurasian otter.

Nature

One of the area's distinctive landscape attractions is the Cascade de Faillitoux. It lies at an altitude of 1,020 m and has a drop of more than 40 m. The Boucle de Faillitoux leads to the waterfall; there, the water flows alongside a large block of volcanic rock and a lava flow. Its basalt columns make it a geological curiosity.

Hiking

The GR400 is one of the hiking trails in Thiézac. In addition, the Sentier découverte du Pas de Cère runs through the area as a marked, moderately difficult 2 km circular route with an outward and return leg; it takes approximately one hour.

Culture

The Eglise Saint-Martin was built at the end of the 15th century and was formerly a priory. Inside, there is an altarpiece classified as a Monument historique.

The Chaumière de Granier is a restored farm at an altitude of 1,050 m, opposite the Puy Griou above the Cère Valley. A museum tour there explores 100 years of life and work in a mountain village in Cantal.

Niervèze is a typical mountain hamlet that visitors can explore together with the Moulin de Niervèze. The mill's roof, like the roof of the hamlet's bread oven, is covered with large slabs of phonolite. The Moulin de Niervèze has been put back into operation for visitors.

Notre Dame de Consolation is a mountain chapel known for the devotional visits of Anne d’Autriche. To visit its interior, visitors can ask for the key at the village shops before setting out.
