In Murat stands the Église Saint-Nicolas, which is partly classified as a Monument historique and partly listed as a Monument historique under the French heritage protection system. The Église St Nicolas is a 12th-century building made of red and white sandstone. Powerful buttresses define the building; it also has a Caquetouer, a protected area beneath which the villagers traditionally gathered after church services.

Culture and History
Murat Castle dates back in its origins at least to the 11th century and stood on a steep rocky spur. It was protected by seven towers, six of which were round.
At the foot of Murat's old castle lies the Le Creux Chaud spring. It is said never to freeze and inspired the writer Jean-Charles Varennes to write his book “Les fiancés du creux chaud”.
The Château de Chatignoux is a 15th-century building that was remodelled in the 17th century. Its grounds include moats, terraces on several levels and gardens.
Hiking
The PR10 hiking trail “Sur les pas de Jean-Charles Varennes” starts at the Église de Murat. The easy circular route is 7.9 km long; a duration of two hours is indicated for it. It is intended to be accessible year-round, provided weather conditions are favourable.
