Villa Arnaga in Cambo-les-Bains combines protected architectural heritage with a specific literary connection. The built and undeveloped parts of its estate are fully protected as a historic monument. The gatekeeper’s house and the mill are excluded; for these, protection extends only to the façades and roofs. The designation was made by decree dated 13 May 2016. Edmond Rostand lived with his family at Villa Arnaga from 1906 until his death in 1918.

Culture and History

The current building of Saint-Laurent Church dates from the 17th century. Three levels of carved galleries surround its nave, while the elevated choir is paved with mosaics.

The Maison Fagalde is also one of the town’s dated historical landmarks: it began operating in 1787 and was the first to industrialize chocolate production using steam-powered machines. Until the 18th century, Bas Cambo also had a port used for the exchange of goods by river.

The Cambo-les-Bains tourist office offers three themed tours for residents and visitors.

Anyone planning to visit Villa Arnaga and the thermal park in Cambo-les-Bains may be considering renting a holiday apartment.

Nature and Spa

The thermal park is freely accessible all year round. La Colline de la Bergerie is a 17.5-hectare sensitive natural area in the hills above Cambo-les-Bains. From there, the 180-degree view extends to the Basque peaks of Artzamendi, Ursuia, Mondarrain, and Rhune.

Thermal spa operations in Cambo-les-Bains resumed in 1977 after an interruption of more than 40 years.

Local Products

At Ferme Harizkazuia, visitors can learn about the stages of honey production, understand how organic honey is made, and taste beekeeping products. They can also explore the farm grounds and observe beehives.

At Ferme Kultur Piment, the cultivation and history of AOP-certified peppers, as well as the production steps, are presented; tasting workshops are also available.
