Culture and history
The Musée du Lac in Sanguinet bears the designation “Musée de France”. The permanent exhibition is divided into three chronological sections: the Neolithic, the Metal Ages and Antiquity. The archaeological collection of the Musée du Lac comprises 412 objects and ranges from the Neolithic to the Gallo-Roman period. Visitors can also discover the remains of Losa in the museum, a Gallo-Roman village that was inhabited from the 1st to the 4th century.
The Church of Saint-Sauveur in Sanguinet was built between 1853 and 1856 on the site of a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. It is a Neo-Romanesque building with a bell tower over the entrance porch and three naves; the porch features baptismal fonts.
The village discovery trail in Sanguinet begins in front of the tourist office and forms an approximately 4-kilometre loop leading to the village’s main sights. It leads to Espace Gemme, whose grounds include a bergerie and a traditional Landes dwelling. Both buildings were dismantled in the Haute-Lande and rebuilt true to the original.
Nature and trails
The forest discovery trail in Sanguinet begins at the town hall and forms an approximately 8-kilometre loop leading to forestry facilities and showcasing life in the Landes. For more than 4 kilometres, it runs along the right bank of the Crastebille. Along the ditch beside the forest discovery trail grows the royal fern, a large fern with light-green fronds.
The Chemin de Tchin Tchan is a peaceful walking trail through nature, providing access on foot to the small Plage de Caton.
Lake and shore
The Conche de Sanguinet lies entirely within the lake’s 300-metre-wide shore strip. From Navarrosse, Plage du Pavillon can be reached by bicycle via the cycle path running along the lake. The lake water at Plage du Pavillon is calm, clear and shallow, making it suitable for swimming.
