Orthevielle: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

One of the most important buildings in Orthevielle’s village centre is the Gothic parish church of Saint-Pierre. It features construction phases from the Middle Ages, possibly from the 16th century, and from the second half of the 18th century. Its floor plan has three aisles; on the west side there is a fortified bell tower porch.

Culture

Below the church is the Lavoir du Bourg, a communal washhouse dating from the 19th century. The washerwomen washed their laundry on one of the eight wash stones. To do so, they came by ferry from Hastingues across the Gave. Historically, the washhouse also served as a meeting place.

The shady Fontaine de Pampara is also located in the centre of Orthevielle. The spring releases water continuously, but it is not drinkable.

Landscape

From the village centre, the view stretches across a fertile plain reaching as far as the Adour. Orthevielle also includes the Barthes, which today are predominantly characterised by kiwi plantations.

Activities

L'Etrier d'Orthe offers pony rides and trail rides for children and adults. The programme also includes pony riding and horse-riding lessons. An adapted session is offered for people with disabilities.
