Culture and History

The bell tower porch of the parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built in 1871 by the contractor Molia according to plans by the architect V. Ponassé. The church was largely rebuilt in the 14th or possibly the 15th century; the south aisle was probably added in the 17th century. According to local tradition, the oldest parts date back to the 12th century.

The Château de Gaujacq is a manor house built in the 17th century by François de Sourdis, lieutenant general of the armies of Louis XIV. It is arranged around a garden known as the “jardin des délices” and an Italian-style gallery. Visitors can view furnished apartments from the 17th and 18th centuries, decorated with wood paneling and painted panels.

The 86.5-kilometer tourist route “Cap à l’Est – Quand la Gascogne s’invite à table” passes through Gaujacq as one of its stages. On the GARUCHOT Circuit, La Cabane Landaise regularly organizes gatherings for motorsport enthusiasts.
