The La Verdonnaise route follows the canal to former oyster huts; the circular route to the huts is 800 metres long. The remarkable Marais du Logit is also located along the La Verdonnaise route. An information board indicates that this site can be visited.

Saint-Nicolas Beach is a natural sea beach with a wooded area behind the dune and picnic tables. It can be reached by bicycle via the Vélodyssée; from there, a footpath of approximately 450 metres leads to the beach. The Vélodyssée begins at Pointe de Grave, opposite the ferry terminal for the ferry service between Royan and Le Verdon-sur-Mer. Saint-Nicolas Beach is suitable for surfing and bodyboarding.

Culture and History

Visitors can reach the Cordouan Lighthouse by boat from Le Verdon-sur-Mer. The Cordouan Lighthouse is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Pointe de Grave, there is a memorial commemorating wartime events, including Operation Frankton and the Monument aux Américains.

The Phare de la Pointe de Grave, which is listed as a historic monument, comprises the entire lighthouse, including the former residential buildings now used as a museum. The Musée du phare de Cordouan et des Phares et Balises presents the history of maritime signalling and is dedicated to the Cordouan Lighthouse. The Phare de Grave offers panoramic views over Le Verdon-sur-Mer.

The former oyster port is home to artists’ huts where photographers, painters, sculptors, ceramicists and other creative professionals display their work and welcome visitors throughout the summer.
