Coutras developed at the confluence of the Isle and Dronne rivers. The covered market hall in Coutras was inaugurated in 1935.
Culture
The Puits Henri IV was built in 1551 during the Renaissance. It is the only surviving remains of the Château de Coutras, which was destroyed in 1731. It has been listed as a historic monument under a protection order dated 6 August 1956.
The ambulatory end, choir and square bell tower of the Romanesque Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste have been preserved; they were built at the end of the 12th century. The apse and the bay in front of it, which is vaulted with a dome, are protected as historic monuments under a listing order dated 21 December 1925. The Merovingian sarcophagi discovered next to the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste are still visible inside the church.

Nature
The municipality of Coutras is affected by three Natura 2000 sites, including the Isle Valley from Périgueux to its confluence with the Dordogne. The Isle Valley provides a habitat for the European mink and the European pond turtle.

The “Balade au fil de l’histoire et du patrimoine de Coutras” is an easy, 6-kilometre, one-hour circular walking route starting in Coutras. The route is freely accessible and offers the opportunity to discover the buildings, monuments and history of the town of Coutras.
The motorhome site at the former Frais Rivage campsite is directly connected to Coutras town centre via the Passerelle du Vieux-Pont; pedestrians and cyclists can easily reach the centre using it.
The Lac des Nauves consists of two ponds and offers opportunities for walking and sporting activities. Lac des Nauves also has a beach, swimming facilities, fishing opportunities, paddleboards and pedal boats.
The “Base canoë-kayak et paddle de Coutras” offers canoe, kayak and paddle excursions on the Dronne in a natural setting. All forms of fishing can be practised on the Isle and the Dronne.
