Wine and Landscape

The vineyard of Château Lagrange has been farmed organically since 2014 and is Ecocert-certified. Château Lagrange is a family-owned estate extending across the municipalities of Capian and La Sauve. It has a contiguous vineyard covering 9.6 hectares, of which 4.4 hectares are planted with white grape varieties and 5.2 hectares with red grape varieties.

The vineyard of Château Suau extends as a contiguous area across clay- and gravel-rich slopes and plateaus facing south-southeast. The 20-hectare vineyard of Château de Potiron is located on south-facing gravelly slopes containing clay and limestone in Capian. By prior appointment, Château de Potiron offers approximately two-hour visits with wine tasting, as well as insights into the cellars and the vineyard.

Château du Grand Mouëys has an 80-hectare vineyard on a 170-hectare hilly estate. Château Couteau farms its vineyard without insecticides or herbicides.

A 14.5-kilometre hiking route near Capian leads through vineyards, wooded areas and green lanes to the Bel-Air district. From there, it offers a 360-degree view of the hilly landscape of Entre-deux-Mers.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Saturnin has a Romanesque foundation dating from the period around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. An ancient column was reused in the choir of the Church of Saint-Saturnin. The architect Hosteing built the bell tower of the Church of Saint-Saturnin in 1896.

Château Suau began its history as a hunting lodge belonging to Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette. The residential building of Château Couteau was built in 1850.
