The Grotte de la Mairie was classified as a decorated cave by decree of 4 April 1910.
For reasons of heritage conservation, the Grotte de la Mairie cannot be visited.
The Grotte de Teyjat contains more than 40 Magdalenian rock engravings created around 11,500 years ago.
The Espace Muséographique Pierre Bourrinet illustrates the lives of hunter-gatherers at the end of the Palaeolithic. It also displays photographs, videos and reproductions of exceptional archaeological objects.
An individual visit to the Espace Muséographique Pierre Bourrinet takes an average of 45 minutes.
The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens was built from the 12th century onwards and remodelled several times until the beginning of the 20th century. It can be visited independently.
Getting Around
The “le bourg – le Forestier – Chez Gourjout” walk is a short circular route of just over 4 kilometres. It leads through the centre of Teyjat to prehistoric sites and the hamlets of Le Forestier and Chez Gourjout.
The Abri Mège is a Palaeolithic site behind the church of Teyjat; it was also inhabited during the Magdalenian.
A perforated baton featuring a horse and three small figures known as “Diablotins” was found at the Abri Mège. A decorated bone pin with depictions of animals was also found there.
The Boucle de Teyjat crosses a stream via a small stone bridge.
