Saint-Estèphe: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Grand Étang de Saint-Estèphe covers 23 hectares of water, bordered by forests. It belongs to the network of Espaces Naturels Sensibles du Périgord and is part of an extensive lake district in the Périgord Vert, which migratory birds use as a resting place and wintering ground during migration.

Nature

The Roc Branlant is a 3 × 3-metre granite block resting in balance on a rock slab and movable with a gentle push.

Culture

The surviving remains of the Prieuré de Badeix include a chapel with a nave ending in an apse. The surviving remains preserve openings dating from the 12th century on the eastern side of the first floor.

The Église Saint Etienne is a Romanesque church that was restored and extended in the 16th century. The carved furnishings were made between 1730 and 1738 by the father of the parish priest at the time, who was a carpenter by profession. The church also features frescoes of particular interest.

Paths and Circular Routes

The Boucle de Malibas starts at the information sign in the car park in the centre of Saint-Estèphe and follows yellow waymarking.

At the Roc Branlant, a former canal that once carried water to mills has been adapted for walks; an ethnobotanical educational trail invites visitors to discover plants along the route. From the Roc Branlant car park, 300 m from the Grand Étang, a path with information panels leads through the natural site.

The route “Saint-Estèphe en Ecomobilité – Fishing and Legends Around the Lake” is a 3-km circular route starting in Saint-Estèphe.
