Andolsheim: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Lutheran Church of Saint George has a 13th-century choir tower with the eastern window. Its nave was rebuilt around 1650. The Catholic Church of Saint George was built between 1882 and 1883; it contains an 18th-century Pietà and seven stained-glass windows installed around 1890.

Culture

Traditional half-timbered houses can be seen in Andolsheim, many of which have been restored. Several pink sandstone gateways have been preserved; they mark the entrance to enclosed farm complexes. Tobacco drying sheds have also been preserved, recalling the local agricultural tobacco culture of the 19th century.

The old dovecote, known as a pigeonnier, housed a bread oven and a laundry room on the ground floor and a servants’ room upstairs; the dovecote itself was above. Every year at the beginning of July, Andolsheim celebrates the Fête du sirop festival.

Nature

The municipal area of Andolsheim extends eastwards to the Kastenwald state forest and reaches westwards to the banks of the Ill. The Blind is a groundwater-fed river that rises within the municipal area of Andolsheim.

A former municipal gravel pit was transformed into the educational pond facility “Mare pédagogique”. The facility promotes the conservation and enhancement of regionally typical animal and plant species. At the educational pond facility, the APILL association regularly organizes information and guided-tour days for groups.
