Russ: Holiday apartments and houses

La Marbrière was formerly a marble quarry; the marble extracted there was considered particularly high-quality and beautiful.

Culture and history

The first mention of Russ dates back to 1306 and is attributed to the Bishopric of Strasbourg.

The parish church of Saint-Etienne was completed in 1842. It has a portal tower integrated into the main structure, a three-aisled nave, a semicircular choir and a sacristy on the eastern side. Its construction was prompted by a fire on 10 August 1837, which destroyed the former parish church and 22 houses. The community then decided to build a larger new Saint-Etienne church.

The Mémorial de l'Alsace-Moselle museum, Château Guirbaden castle, the historic site of Ancien Camp du Struthof and the Mémorial de la Déportation monument are also located in the area around Russ. Near the hamlet of Muckenbach in Oberruss, a stone-paved path and numerous piles of stones can be seen, apparently indicating the locations of former houses.

Nature and trails

The Circuit Rando B08: La Marbrière circular hiking trail is intended for experienced hikers and offers an opportunity to discover the geological features of the surrounding area.

The Circuit Vélo B03: Sur les hauteurs de Wisches cycle route passes through Russ. It is 18 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The mountains Buchberg, La Grande Côte, Petit Rosskopf and Strouthoff are located in the area around Russ.

Railway station and transport

Russ/Hersbach railway station is located on the Strasbourg–Saint-Dié railway line. As part of the redesign, 49 parking spaces were created there, including six long-term spaces and two spaces for people with reduced mobility, with direct access to the platform. A bus stop and a short-stay zone were also created.
