Obersteinbach lies on the German and Lorraine border in a natural landscape with extensive forests. Several rocks shaped by erosion tower over the village, which is also a starting point for long hikes.

Culture and History
The Maison des Châteaux is the starting point for numerous hiking trails leading to the castle ruins in the surrounding area. Its exhibition presents photographs of the ruins’ architectural features, maps, and remains displayed on site, including carved stones, stove tiles, and ceramics.
The garden, maze, and orchard around the Maison des Châteaux are open to the public and equipped with benches, themed information panels, and an interactive tourist information terminal. The texts and captions are in French, German, and English.
Petit-Arnsbourg Castle was built in the 14th century as an outpost of Wissembourg Abbey. Stone-carved stairs and passageways, as well as remains of the lord’s palace and the defensive tower, have survived. The surviving remains of Lutzelhardt Castle include a square keep, several residential buildings, wells, and a cistern or cistern reservoir.
Trails and Connections
The GR®53 stage from Wissembourg ends at the Maison du Randonneur on Rue principale in Obersteinbach. The second stage of the GR®53, part of the Traversée du Massif des Vosges, connects Obersteinbach with Niederbronn-les-Bains.
Petit-Arnsbourg Castle can be reached on foot from the village centre in 30 minutes via Rue du Wachtfels and then along a trail marked with a red diamond. Lutzelhardt Castle can be reached on foot from Obersteinbach in 20 minutes via the D 3 towards Sturzelbronn to the car park of the Maison Forestière de Lutzelhardt, followed by a yellow-marked GR 532 trail.
