Heidolsheim is located in the Grand Ried between Sélestat and Marckolsheim, in the historic and cultural region of Alsace.

The small Blind River runs through the western part of Heidolsheim. This western part lies in the floodplain of the Ill, known as the Ried de l’Ill. An old Roman road forms the eastern boundary of Heidolsheim.

Culture and History

Celtic burial mounds from the Iron Age have been found near Heidolsheim, dating from between 700 and 550 BC.

Today’s Saint-Sigismond Church replaced a probably medieval church that had become dilapidated and, despite various renovations in the 18th century, too small. The year 1853 is inscribed on the portal’s tympanum. In 1983, the church was partially damaged by fire and subsequently restored.

An old mill has been preserved in Heidolsheim.

In the 19th century, silk weaving developed in Heidolsheim as a cottage industry.

The Catholic presbytery in Heidolsheim was built in 1842 by Jean Lugensland and was completely restored a short time ago.

Jakob Amman is said to have stayed in Heidolsheim between 1693 and 1695.
