Gunstett: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

On the banks of the Sauer in the municipal territory of Gunstett, the Lavoir de Morsbronn-les-Bains was built after 1871. Sandstone slabs descending in steps towards the Sauer, oak posts supporting the roof, and a wooden structure made of bolted fir timber with wooden peg joints characterize its construction.

Landscape and Trails

The “Promenade autour de Gunstett” starts at the Saint-Michel Church in Gunstett and leads up to the Mont de Gunstett. It reaches a summit with panoramic views of the surrounding villages and landscapes.

The “Circuit de randonnée de part et d’autre de la Sauer” continues across the heights of Gunstett. The hiking route is 17.6 km long and has 226 m of positive elevation gain.

Culture and History

The former Saint-Michel Church in Gunstett probably consisted of a choir tower and a nave, which were presumably built at the end of the Middle Ages. The original choir tower retains a ground floor with a ribbed vault and storeys with loopholes.

Construction of the new Saint-Michel parish church in Gunstett began in 1780 and was completed in 1781.

Oil Well III had two gallery levels at depths of 195 metres and 401 metres. Gunstett lived off oil for around 40 years and consequently became prosperous.

The area around the washhouse was formerly used as a meeting place for bathing and was known as “Gunstett – Plage”.

Village Life

The Gunstett Pear Conservatory comprises around 400 trees and more than 150 different pear varieties. It is located in the centre of Gunstett on a 25-are site near the church and offers guided tours for groups by arrangement.
