The present-day Saint-Maurice parish church in Artolsheim was built in the early third quarter of the 19th century; the year 1850 is engraved on the portal tympanum. An earlier religious building has been reliably documented on the same site since 1371. The plans and construction supervision are attributed to the architect of the Sélestat arrondissement, Antoine Ringeisen. Parts or elements of the previous building appear to have been preserved in the church, including a sacristy door with the year 1709 on the lintel.
The Autel de Sainte-Apolline is located in the nave of Saint-Maurice Church, to the right of the triumphal arch. Its altarpiece has four Corinthian-inspired columns and a statue in the central niche. On 17 December 2012, the Autel de Sainte-Apolline was registered as a protected object.
A healing spring known since the Middle Ages, the “Kreuzbad,” explains the existence of the Artolsheim baths, built around 1750. Les Bains d’Artolsheim were frequently visited in the 19th century by patients suffering from nervous disorders, rheumatism and gout. Since that time, numerous residents of Artolsheim, Richtolsheim and the surrounding municipalities have returned to the Chapelle de la Sainte-Croix on 15 August to attend an open-air church service.
