History
The galleries of the Théophile Mine reach heights of up to four metres. During the German occupation, the Théophile Mine served as a refuge for the inhabitants of Urbeis. It is currently closed to the public.
Nature
The Chemin du patrimoine begins in Urbeis’s central village square and is marked with symbols in the form of miners’ tools. The trail is four kilometres long, takes around two hours, and passes the Maison du mineur and the Théophile Mine.
The “Le Bilstein” hike begins in Urbeis and leads to the castle in about 30 minutes.
Geographical Setting
The Château du Bilstein Lorrain ruins, the mountain le Mont, the mountain le Grand Sapin, the mountain Le Grand Rain and the mountain Le Guichat are located in the immediate vicinity of Urbeis.
The surrounding area of Urbeis also includes Château de la Roche as a castle, Château Frankenbourg as a castle, and the historic site Ancien Monastère de Lièpvre.
