Larsmo offers a range of ways to experience the water, history and outdoor activities. In the Larsmo Archipelago, activities described range from boating and visiting sandy beaches in the outer archipelago in summer to walking, skiing on the ice and ice fishing in winter. Weather and ice conditions play a role in outdoor activities. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth first considering whether island experiences, cultural discoveries or activities on land should be the main focus.

Islands, Sea Views and Seasonal Activities

In the municipality of Larsmo, Köpmanholmen is a publicly accessible recreational area. It has a restaurant, sauna, swimming beach and moorings; there is also a conference room and an observation tower. Taxi boat transport to the island on the m/s Wilma is free, as is the use of the rowing boats. As transport arrangements and individual services may change, check the current conditions locally before setting out. The combined café and restaurant is open from late June to mid-August; confirm the seasonal dates before your visit.

The landscape is also the main attraction at Inre Bergskär: this recreational area near Larsmo’s fishing harbour offers sea views, a barbecue area and a wind shelter. Overnight stays at Olofsborg are free. Confirm the current arrangements before planning to use this option. Another seasonal excursion is offered by Tyynelä Elf Village on Västerbyvägen in Eugmo: visitors are welcomed in July and December, and group bookings are possible outside these periods. Check the current dates if you want to plan your visit in advance.

Maritime History and Cultural Heritage

In Bosund, the Boat, Fishing and Hunting Museum displays traditional Ostrobothnian farm boats, fishing equipment, hunting gear and other maritime objects that form part of Ostrobothnia’s cultural heritage. At the Bjärgas Museum in Holm, other aspects of everyday life take centre stage: exhibits include miniature buildings from the 1930s, a village shop from the 1950s, old toys, textiles and an herb garden. Special exhibitions and a souvenir shop round out the offerings. Ask about current opening hours before your visit.

Larsmo’s wooden church was completed in 1787 and designed by Jacob Rijf. The old stone barn at Kvarnbacken has been restored; in summer, it is used for meetings and exhibitions. On Öuran Island (Örarna), the outermost outpost of the Larsmo Archipelago, the old fishing village offers a glimpse into history. These places bring different aspects of the region to life, from maritime life and historical everyday objects to the use of restored buildings.

A striking link to the present can be found in Larsmo Square: the sculpture Perca navicula by Simon Gripenberg was unveiled in summer 2020. It combines the perch, a symbol of nature, with a Larsmo boat, a symbol of culture.

Activities and Trails in the Municipality

Larsmo Sports Park in Holm brings together a variety of activities. Its adventure playground offers opportunities for balancing, climbing and riding a zip line. The facilities also include a disc golf course, completed in autumn 2022, as well as a skatepark and pump track below Cronhjelmskolan. Since November 2024, there has also been an outdoor fitness machine for a full-body workout.

The starting points for the Holm Nature Trail and Larsmo Nature Trail are both opposite the sports park car park. The 44-kilometre Larsmo Trail is a separate route: it passes through several villages, by lakes and streams, and has rest areas. Trail conditions and infrastructure may change, so check them before planning your route. The different options can thus be distinguished by the type of outing: from a single activity at the sports park to a longer trail through several villages.

Choosing the Right Accommodation for Your Trip

When looking for a holiday rental in Larsmo, it helps to start with the experiences you have planned: do you want to focus on the archipelago and its island attractions, or combine museums, built heritage and outdoor activities? For seasonal offerings such as the café on Köpmanholmen or Tyynelä Elf Village, you should also check the current dates.
