Kadrina – Culture, History and Active Experiences

Kadrina combines a distinctive local history with culture and active experiences. Church, Monument and Local History

The present stone church in Kadrina was built in the 15th century on the same site. Inside, there is an approximately life-size wooden crucifix with a figure of Christ. It was brought from Germany in the 1490s and placed above the triumphal arch. The Kadrina congregation traditionally considers 1231 to be its year of foundation. Services are held in the church at 11:00 a.m. on the second and fourth Sunday of every month.

The organ is also one of the notable historical details: the congregation bought a new organ with 18 stops from the Church of Jesus in Saint Petersburg. Another important sight in the municipality is the Emakeeleausammas monument, which stands next to Kadrina School.

The development of Kadrina alevik is closely connected with two local landmarks. The settlement emerged at the end of the 19th century between Kadrina railway station and Kadrina Church. According to tradition, it grew particularly after the railway was built. Kadrina's first station building was erected in 1870, and the later station building in 1898. The latter was decorated with rich wooden carvings and ornamental details.

Activities Around the Kadrina Terviserada

For active days, the Kadrina terviserada offers several artificially snow-covered tracks: 2.4 km, 1.7 km and 1 km. They are used for physical activity year-round and for skiing in winter. The grounds also feature a low ropes course and a bike park with jumps and a pump track. The Kadrina pump track is a 300-metre BMX track for BMX racing, BMX freestyle and skateboarding.

The Kadrina Spordikeskus brings together additional sporting opportunities. The sports hall offers facilities for badminton, tennis, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, indoor football and indoor hockey. There is also a 25-metre indoor swimming pool with four lanes. This allows you to switch between different active formats when planning your day without limiting the focus of the trip to just one sport.

Lake Kadrina Paisjärv is surrounded by a path for pedestrians and cyclists. This complements the more sporting activities with a route that can be incorporated into a quieter day plan. Kadrina Rahvamaja was completed in 1930 within five months using donated funds. The older mixed folk dance group Kahevahel is currently active there. Kadrina sauna is also considered to be a village sauna that has existed since 1957, with Sunday sauna sessions open to everyone.
