Discover Strandhuse on the Isefjord

Strandhuse is situated on the Isefjord and combines a bathing spot with a sandy beach, forests and the unique history of Ulkerup. The village is bordered by the Isefjord to the east and is characterised by fishermen’s cottages and country houses. Water and the coast on the Isefjord

There is public access to the Isefjord from Strandhuse. The bathing spot with its sandy beach makes it possible to include time by the water in your travel plans. This landscape gives the area a distinct coastal character, without days by the water having to be the sole focus.

Hiking trails between two forests

Strandhuse lies between Annebjerg Skov and Ulkerup Skov. In Ulkerup Skov, a yellow-marked hiking trail runs for 4.5 kilometres past many of the forest’s sights. Hiking Route 122 is considerably longer at 11.3 kilometres and passes through Annebjerg Skov, Ulkerup Overdrev and Ulkerup Skov. This allows you to choose between a shorter forest loop and a more extensive route, depending on the desired distance.

A tour of 60 kilometres in total along the western shore of the Isefjord passes Ulkerup Skov and Annebjerg Skov and can be divided into three daily stages. The Fjordsti hiking route starts in Strandhuse and is 152.6 kilometres long. Distances like these are particularly suitable for travel plans involving several days of hiking and different stages.

Cycling, bridleways and an important route choice

Cycling Route 40, Fjordstien, passes through Strandhuse. There are also designated bridleways in Ulkerup Skov, on Ulkerup Overdrev and in Annebjerg Skov. Those travelling by bicycle should also be aware that there are no marked mountain-bike routes in Annebjerg Skov or Ulkerup Skov. This distinction helps when choosing suitable accommodation and preparing your own equipment, without equating different forms of cycling.

Fishing village and Ulkerup Village

Strandhuse originally developed as a small fishing village. The fishermen’s cottages and country houses recall this rural character and complement the view of the coastal landscape. Ulkerup Village adds a historical dimension: the village was established around 1300 and lies in the middle of Ulkerup Skov. Seven ceramic figures, known as the “Ulkerup souls”, stand at the protected former village site. They illustrate the mythical story of the people whom Christian VII forcibly relocated from their forest village in 1782. The historic village site and its figures make the forest area more than a destination for outdoor activities; they also give the surroundings an unusual cultural dimension.

Strandhuse is served by bus route 566 from Nykøbing Sj.; the bus runs once an hour.
