Lild Strand: Dunes, Trails and Coastal History
Accommodation in Lild Strand
Lild Strand offers protected natural areas, trails of varying lengths and notable reminders of its coastal history. Outdoors, there are opportunities for wildlife watching, photography and hiking, as well as a church in a former lifeboat station, a coastal boat and local creative activities. When looking for a holiday rental, consider whether you want your days to focus more on observing nature and hiking or on culture, courses and regional products.
Dunes, Heathland and Special Natural Areas
The Bulbjerg Dark Sky Park covers the areas of Bulbjerg-Troldsting-Lild Strand and extends over 12.54 square kilometres. Activities include wildlife watching, photography and hiking. Areas southwest of Lild Strand are part of Natura 2000 site No. 44, “Lild Strand and Lild Strandkær”. The conservation designation includes eleven habitat types, with dune habitats being the most important.
The heathland southwest of Lild Strand, between Redningsvejen and the woodland areas, is designated a quiet zone. This designation particularly supports the breeding birds that live there. Please respect this conservation purpose when visiting. Green woodpeckers and great spotted woodpeckers are particularly often seen among the mature trees of Lild Klitplantage. Lild Strandkær is a natural, elongated dune lake near Lildstrand, running parallel to the coastline.
Hikes and Routes with Different Characteristics
The white trail starts at the car park at Strandvejen/Østvejen and leads to the observation tower. Another place to start a visit to the beach is the car park on Sandnæshagevej, which is close to the shore. From Lild Strand, you can walk to the dog forest in Lild Klitplantage.
The short Sensory Walk starts at the car park by the landing site. It follows Strandkærvej past the church and through the dunes to the beach; from the beach, it returns to the landing site. The walk takes about 40 minutes. How long you spend on the route also depends on your breaks and how many stones you collect. The longer hike is the route from Lildstrand to Bulbjerg and back along the beach; it takes about two hours. This gives you two different time options. Trail conditions may vary.
The routes also differ in their descriptions. National cycle route No. 1, Vestkyststien, passes through Lild and Vester Thorup Klitplantage. The blue route starts at the car park on Gl. Aalborgvej and passes through forest, meadow, marsh and heathland; it is three kilometres long. The yellow route starts at the car park on Strandvejen near Rotbølgård, crosses completely flat terrain and is also three kilometres long. The routes are the same length, but the blue route passes through a varied sequence of landscapes, while the yellow route crosses flat terrain.
Coastal History, Creativity and Local Products
