Holiday apartment in Morsø Municipality: Hiking along the Limfjord

Morsø Municipality combines moler formations with the Limfjord. At Hanklit, a moler cliff up to 60 metres high, a seabed almost 55 million years old is exposed. There are also hiking routes along the cliff and through the hilly landscape. Feggeklit is another distinctive moler formation in the Limfjord, shaped by time, wind and other natural forces.

Nature

Kystruten på Mors follows the Limfjord for 150 kilometres. It is divided into ten approximately equal-length stages that start and end in Nykøbing Mors. Along the route, there are also shorter loops and circular trails that can be completed in one to three hours. Hanklit connects the moler cliff with hiking routes along its course and through the hilly landscape.

Legind Bjerge belongs to the larger geological area known as Det Tabte Land. There are marked routes, guided nature tours and toilets there; the area also offers hiking routes in natural surroundings. At the Skarregaard Nature and Cultural Centre, paths lead through woodland and meadows that are suitable for walks in nature.

Around the Fossil- og Molermuseet, visitors can search for fossils in the moler pits. The museum’s collection is considered one of the finest in the world for moler fossils. The museum itself displays fossils of fish, birds, insects and plants whose history goes back more than 55 million years.

Culture

In Nykøbing and around the island, the Skulpturguide Mors leads visitors to artworks, sculptures and public art. Local artists feature prominently in this guided tour. Dueholm Monastery presents the development of Nykøbing, the history of Dueholm as a monastery and manor house, prehistoric finds, and shipping and fishing on and around the Limfjord near Mors. Exhibitions are housed in four historic buildings there. A children’s trail offers hands-on activities based on the exhibitions.

The Støberimuseet presents the history of the foundry through films, pictures and narrative exhibitions. At the Skarregaard Nature and Cultural Centre, there are traces of prehistory, burial mounds and historic structures that bear witness to life over the centuries. Feggeklit is also associated with the local legend that Hamlet avenged himself there on his evil stepfather, King Fegge.

Food and drink

During the oyster safari, participants wade into the Limfjord in chest waders and search the shallow water for Pacific oysters and European flat oysters. The safari includes practical guidance on opening and preparing oysters. Chest waders, buckets and nets are provided in various sizes. At the end, participants enjoy the day’s catch natural, together with a glass of wine.

Getting around

Ejerslev Harbour was established in 1911 and has since been an important starting point for fishing and life on the Limfjord. In the lagoon, visitors can walk along the moler slopes and search for fossils. The Feggesund ferry provides access to visitor experiences on both sides of the Limfjord, including attractions on Mors.

The Morsø Tourist Office offers bicycle hire, help with routes, map books and cycling tour packages. Bicycles can be rented for children and adults. Sillerslev Beach has Blue Flag status and offers shallow, calm water that is particularly suitable for families.
