Dronninglund – Forest, Water and Culture

Dronninglund combines expansive nature, watery landscapes and remarkable cultural history. A defining natural setting is Dronninglund Storskov at the southern end of the Jyske Ås. The forest covers 961 ha and has three signposted hiking trails of different lengths. The Sømoseruten is 2 or 3 km long, the Bøgeskovsruten is 3.5 or 6 km, and the Nåleskovsruten is 5 km. This allows you to plan your day around your preferred trail length without having to commit to a single route.

Water is also part of the landscape. Øster Møllesø is located in Dronninglund and covers 24,000 m². A walk around the lake offers beautiful views of the water. Dronninglund Castle originated from the former Hundslund Monastery, which was probably founded by Benedictine nuns in the 12th century.

Another stop is Øster Mølle, a 16th-century watermill that belonged to Dronninglund Castle. Dorf Møllegård, by contrast, tells the story of life on a mill farm at the beginning of the 20th century. The listed mill-farm complex includes a 17th-century watermill. From Dorf Møllegård, a scenic path leads around the Mill Lake. This makes it possible to combine historical topics with a waterside walk in a single outing.

Two further destinations focus on art and regional history. Dronninglund Kunstcenter is a 1,200 m², three-storey exhibition building constructed in 1977 that presents changing exhibitions from March to November. Egnssamlingen for Østvendsyssel tells the story of Østvendsyssel from the Stone Age to the mid-20th century. In addition, Høstdagen at Egnssamlingen for Østvendsyssel is an annual tradition.

The range of experiences allows for different daily rhythms. Several signposted routes are available for a forest excursion; by the water, you can plan a walk around Øster Møllesø or along the path by the Mill Lake. Those interested in culture can focus on Dronninglund Church, the historic mills, the Kunstcenter or Egnssamlingen.
