Dejret – Village Street, Farms and Beach
Accommodation in Dejret
Dejret on Skødshoved combines a winding village street with large farmsteads and a landscape that slopes gently north towards two bays. The planned linear village offers a special view of the structure of a settlement: larger farmsteads and country houses stand regularly on both sides of the street. If you are planning a stay, you can make village culture, walks and the beach different focal points of your trip.
Village Street and Distinctive Farmsteads
Along Dejret Bygade is an almost intact row of larger four-sided farmsteads. The name describes a farm complex with wings of buildings on four sides; in Dejret, this building type thus becomes a recurring feature along the street. The farmsteads are part of a village layout in which larger buildings are regularly arranged on both sides of the winding village street.
Dejret Bygade is also home to a well-preserved cooperative bakery that is rare in every respect. Its cooperative form makes it a distinct part of the village’s history. The remains of a windmill can also be seen in Dejret. Together, the farmsteads, bakery and mill remains give the village several different facets: a distinctive streetscape, a rare communal institution and a visible relic of earlier use.
Hilly Landscape and Trails
Dejret lies high in fertile, hilly countryside. North of the village, the terrain slopes gently towards Kalø Vig and Knebel Vig. This elevated position and gradual descent provide a different accent from the continuous row of farmsteads along the village street: here, the shape of the terrain makes the impression; there, it is the arrangement of the buildings.
There are two walking options of different lengths. In the area around Dejret, Sporet på Skødshoved is a 2.5-kilometre route marked with yellow triangles on posts. A walk of about seven kilometres leads from Skødshoved through Dejret, Blåkær, Landborup, Bjødstrup and Hundshøje, and then back again. The shorter route is therefore a different distance option from the walk that connects several named places and returns to Skødshoved.
The natural environment at Skødshoved is also part of the region’s character. In Syddjurs, there are four to five populations of natterjack toads at Dejret Øhoved, near Skødshoved at Strands and near Fejrup; a population may still exist at Øer. These place names distinguish several areas rather than combining them into a single observation site.
Dejret Beach and Water Sports
At Dejret Beach, the focus is on the water and activities along the shore. The beach is accessible via Skårhavvej; fishing and sailing small dinghies are popular activities there. The water reaches a depth of two metres about 100 to 150 metres from the shore. The distance and depth information helps position the beach as a separate focal point alongside village sightseeing and walks.
When choosing where to stay in Dejret, you can therefore consider what matters most for your trip: the distinctive village street with its farmsteads, one of the two walking options, or activities at the beach. You can choose a holiday apartment as a base for the focus that interests you most, without suggesting that village culture, trails and water all offer the same experience.
