Bellevue Beach, near the suburb of Risskov, is about 4 km north of central Aarhus. The sandy beach has very fine sand and very few stones in the water. These features make the shoreline easy to picture and give you a concrete point of reference when deciding whether a sandy beach should be one of the defining themes of your holiday. When looking for a holiday rental, you can take this priority into account from the outset.

Swimming with different features

At the Åkrogen bathing spot, you can swim from the bathing jetty. Den Permanente is a separate sea-bathing facility with a large communal area, sandy beach, changing rooms, toilets and taps. As separate bathing spots, Åkrogen and Den Permanente have different focuses: at Åkrogen, access via the jetty is central; Den Permanente combines sea bathing and a sandy beach with several practical facilities. When comparing them, you can decide whether access from the jetty or a communal area with the facilities listed is more important to you.

Riis Skov: nature and exercise

Riis Skov is a distinct woodland of about 80 hectares, dominated by beech trees. The two marked running routes differ in length: the red route is about 3.3 km, and the yellow one about 4.7 km. Both start by the fitness equipment in the south, so you can compare the route lengths without planning for a different starting point. At around 1.4 km longer, the yellow route is longer than the red one; since both start in the same place, the comparison focuses on length.

The Åkrog Strandpark is a distinct point of reference for cyclists: the national cycle route N5 runs through the park. This distinguishes the N5 from the running routes in the forest: there, you can compare the approximate distances, whereas for the N5, the focus is on its route through Åkrog Strandpark.

Forest history and a meteorite memorial stone

Riis Skov has its own historical role: in the 19th century, the woodland was used as a pleasure forest for the citizens of Aarhus and was open to the public. The historical term “pleasure forest” refers to the forest’s recreational function for the city’s residents.

A distinct place of remembrance in Riis Skov is the memorial stone commemorating the spot where a meteorite fell. The memorial stone connects a specific natural event with a place of remembrance; the forest’s former use as a pleasure forest tells the story of its recreational function. This brings two different historical perspectives together: a single event and the use of a woodland by the citizens of Aarhus. If you are interested in the stories behind places, the memorial stone in Riis Skov provides a concrete point of reference.
