Discover Glostrup: Nature, Culture and Special Experiences
Glostrup combines varied landscapes with art, churches, stages and events. Anyone planning a trip to Glostrup can choose between short walks, longer routes through different landscape areas and cultural discoveries. The choice of holiday apartment can be easily aligned with the planned focus: on active days in nature as well as visits to exhibitions, performances or concerts.
Nature Experiences in Vestskoven and Ejby Mose
One defining landscape area is Vestskoven. It encompasses hilly landscapes, large plains, lakes and a diverse range of wildlife. One fifth of Glostrup Municipality consists of this woodland, which covers a total area of 1,400 hectares. This gives Glostrup a variety of natural settings for walks and excursions, without every day having to follow the same plan.
Ejby Mose also has its own distinctive character. The area is a mosaic of lakes, marshes, larger partly open areas with grass and scrub, and small woods. Ejby Mose was inaugurated as a new recreational area in 1975. The Nature Adventure there consists of nine stations and follows a route of approximately 1.5 km, which takes around 45 minutes. The starting point is at the scout hut near Ejby Hallen, Mosetoften 37, 2600 Glostrup. For travellers with children, this manageable route with stations is a practical way to discover nature together in stages; according to the description, it can be completed by everyone.
Ejby Mose can also be experienced on special occasions: Nature Day takes place there every year and is organised by Grøn Guide together with local beekeepers, scouts, archers and the Danish Society for Nature Conservation. At this event, visitors can observe the fish of the marsh at close range. Fishing is also permitted in Ejby Mose with a valid fishing licence. At Oxbjerget, part of the fenced-in dog forest in Vestskoven, dogs may be walked off the leash. Around 200 metres from the parking area on Oxbjergvej, there is a fire pit and a picnic shelter.
Routes According to Your Preferred Distance
Several differently designed paths are available for planning your day. Hjertestien is laid out as a figure eight and offers loops of 2.2 km and 4.1 km. The two loops can be combined into a 6.3 km route. The Glostrup Art Route is approximately 16 km long; there are also 6 km and 9 km variants. Kløverstien consists of four themed routes of 2.5 km, 5 km, 7.5 km and 17 km, passing various sights. This means you can adapt the length of an outing to your own daily rhythm during the trip planning stage, without having to commit to a single route.
Culture Between Churches, Art and the Stage
Glostrup also has remarkable cultural traces to offer. Østervangkirken was inaugurated on 19 April 1970 and was the first round church built in Denmark since the Middle Ages. The medieval Glostrup Church was originally built from unworked and split fieldstones. Its furnishings include bells with a history of their own: the oldest was cast in 1558 by bell founder Laurids Madsen. The younger bell dates from 1708 and was recast in 1848.
In Byparken, eight of the nine bronze sculptures donated by the widow of artist Anders Tinsbo form a small sculpture park. Another unusual art presentation can be found on the platform of Glostrup railway station: 39 paintings tell the story of Glostrup’s culture, nature and everyday life. For a culturally focused stay, these discoveries can be combined with a visit to Glostrup Amatørscene, which has two stages at Leragergård.
Events for Different Interests
Glostrup Bio presents a broad film programme featuring premiere films, 3D films and opera films, as well as concerts and other events. Every year, Glostrup Kulturhus organises concerts there with music from various genres and local and national bands. Glostrup Library hosts 6 to 8 children’s theatre performances each year. From September to April, the seasonal Lun Lørdag series at Glostrup Fritidscenter combines a concert, café and art exhibition on the first Saturday of the month, almost every month.
Glostrup Kulturfest adds further highlights with music, theatre, art, street culture and community. Rådhusparken offers activities and experiences for children and adults as part of the festival. A holiday apartment in Glostrup is therefore particularly suitable for travel planning that combines nature trails and cultural events. First decide whether short routes, extended days in the landscape, art or events should be the focus, and then choose your accommodation according to this personal travel plan.
