Hostomice Nad Bílinou: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Hostomice lies at the transition between the Ore Mountains and Husův vrch and is considered the gateway to the Central Bohemian Uplands. The landscape, geology and local history together create a multifaceted picture of this Czech town.

Landscape and hiking

Husův vrch is a Tertiary neovolcanic hill composed of olivine nephelinite and pyroclastics above the Bílina Valley. The Husův vrch geological locality lies on the southern slope of the hill of the same name, on the eastern edge of Hostomice. A hiking route starts at the railway station, crosses the Bílina via a road and a small bridge, and leads to the foot of Husův vrch.

During the industrial development of Hostomice, a railway line was built connecting Bílina and Ústí nad Labem.

History and culture

The first written mention of Hostomice dates back to 1225, when the settlement was donated to a convent of the Knights of the Cross. Around the turn of the 20th century, a large settlement and a hoard from the Late Bronze Age were discovered in Hostomice. Finds from this period included axes, a sword, arrowheads, bracelets, needles and decorated buttons.

During the rapid industrialisation in the second half of the 19th century, glassworks were established in Hostomice. During the industrial development, coal was mined in several opencast mines in the surrounding area. Mining and brickmaking activities in Hostomice also uncovered fossil remains, including powerful tusks of mastodons, elephants of the genus Dinotherium, as well as remains of monkeys and bats.

The building “Bývalá sokolovna Hostomice nad Bílinou” was opened in 1922 and was frequently used by the theatre section of the local unit, founded in 1907. It has a hall with a gallery and stage, but is currently out of operation.

On 30 April 2026, the traditional event “Pálení čarodějnic na Biklrose” will take place in Biklros.
