Brno Zoo is located on Mniší hora in the Brno-Bystrc district, near Brněnská přehrada, and covers an area of 65 hectares.

Nature and Water

In Podkomorské lesy Nature Park, the Svratka River flows through a rocky valley amid extensive woodland. The nature park encompasses the largest forest complex within the city of Brno.

Since 1945, Brněnská přehrada has been used primarily for recreation and sports. It has large beaches with good access to the water and opportunities for boat trips.

The mountains of Babí Lom, Zlobica, Paní hora and Stádla are located around Bystrc.

Zoo and Visitor Facilities

Brno Zoo can be reached by public transport, car and bicycle. The zoo has restaurants, snack stands, children's playgrounds and facilities for families with small children.

Culture and History

The parish church of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist in Brno-Bystrc has an early medieval core dating from the first half of the 13th century, which is partially incorporated into the western perimeter wall of the nave.

The interior of the parish church contains furnishings ranging from the Baroque period to the modern era.

In addition to agriculture, the historical livelihoods in Bystrc included crafts, particularly baking, as well as river fishing. During the interwar period, Bystrc increasingly developed into a recreational area.
