Staré Sedlo combines mining history, ecclesiastical architecture, and the landscape of the Ohře Valley into a multifaceted villagescape.

Culture

The Dědičná štola Jana Křtitele in Staré Sedlo is a cultural monument associated with the extraction of raw materials and the drainage of mines. It was established for the extraction of raw materials and the drainage of mines and continues to serve to divert mine water into the Ohře.

The first reference to the Svaté Trojice mineral works in Staré Sedlo dates from 1573. It was the oldest works in the Sokolov area for the production of alum and green vitriol.

The Staré Sedlo château was built in 1816 by Fr. Miessl, the then director of the mineral works. It stands on a rock above the valleys of the Ohře and the Hruškovský potok. In front of the château stands a statue of Saint Florian from the workshop of the Loket sculptor Wildt; it was originally located in a niche of the château.

The portal of the Dědičná štola Jana Křtitele is located near a suspension bridge below the Staré Sedlo château.

Ecclesiastical Architecture and Remembrance

The Church of the Holy Trinity, in Czech kostel Nejsvětější Trojice, in Staré Sedlo was originally built in the Baroque style between 1711 and 1720. After the devastating village fire of 4 September 1861, in which it burned down completely, it was restored the following year, 1862, in a pseudo-historical style. The church is used for regular services and festive events, as well as, with the support of the municipality, for cultural events and concerts.

In the northeastern part of the village of Staré Sedlo are the severely damaged remains of a fortification. The war memorial to those who fell in the First World War was erected in 1925 by the local association of war veterans and extensively reconstructed in 2008.

Nature

The Ohře Valley near Staré Sedlo natural monument was designated in 1976 and covers 32.84 hectares. The protected Ohře Valley features numerous pseudokarst caves as well as fossils of subtropical Tertiary flora.

National Cycle Route No. 6 runs through the Staré Sedlo area on the Mostov–Loket section.
