Otov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Otov is home to a Late Gothic wayside shrine, one of only four places in the Domažlice area where such shrines have survived to this day.
History
The first written mention of Otov dates back to 1239. A mill belonging to Otov has been documented in writing since 1657 and was demolished in the 1980s.
Gold was panned in the Černý potok stream near Otov during the Middle Ages and probably even earlier. Two depressions in a stone in Otov were used for gold amalgamation. Earlier feldspar mining in the surrounding area is also documented: Červený vrch and Větrný vrch (Fučná) retain remnants of adits from that period.
Nature
Červený vrch is a natural monument protecting a former feldspar mine, which is an important documentation site for the pegmatites of the Poběžovice area.
The mountains of Škarmanka, Čerchov, Spálený vrch and Železný vrch are located in the vicinity of Otov. The Červený vrch geological site lies about 100 metres southeast of Otov, covers 1.16 hectares and features abandoned open-pit workings, spoil heaps and pits from pegmatite mining.
Educational Trail
The “Těžba živců na Poběžovicku” educational trail consists of two circular routes with a total of 14 stations and covers natural-history features as well as the area’s former mining activities.
The “Otovský lom” station on the “Těžba živců na Poběžovicku” educational trail covers the reclamation and revitalisation of the landscape. The “Důl Otov Fučná” station covers the mineralogy of pegmatites, the processing and use of the raw material, and bats.
