Culture

The Church of St Anthony in Opatov dates from the first half of the 13th century. Its tower has a Romanesque base and was built around 1240; the chancel dates from the first half of the 14th century and is Gothic. The Chapel of St John Nepomuk was built in 1722 by the priest Matěj Peška.

Nature

Králova zahrada is located in the source area of the Zádolský Stream in the cadastral area of Opatov. In early spring, the site is characterised by a mass occurrence of spring snowflakes. The Opatovské rybníky form an important biocorridor for the migration and spread of bird species and other species between Moravia and Bohemia. Around 220 bird species have been recorded in its system to date. Hvězda is the largest and oldest pond in the area around Opatov.

Trails

The landscape around Opatov, characterised by ponds and forests, is suitable for walks, cycling and mushroom picking. A blue-marked hiking trail from Semanín railway station to Svitavy runs near Králova zahrada. From Semanín railway station, Králova zahrada can be reached on foot via a surfaced forest path in less than one kilometre.

Town and Leisure

Opatov has a municipal restaurant with bowling called Opatovská hospoda. Opatov railway station was connected to the Praha–Brno railway line and entered service in 1846.
