Nature

The Černé rokle National Nature Monument lies between Kosoř and Radotín and includes areas within the cadastral territory of Kosoř. It is of international geological and palaeontological importance and contains a stratotype profile for the boundary between the Lochkovian and Pragian stages. Černé rokle includes rocky steppes, steppe grassland and abandoned quarries with notable flora, bryoflora and mycoflora, as well as a species-rich insect fauna.

The PR Klapice Nature Reserve is located in the vicinity of Kosoř and consists of a steep, wooded spur with several abandoned quarry walls. The PR Radotínské údolí Nature Reserve extends southwards as far as Kosoř and includes areas within the cadastral territory of Kosoř. It features internationally important geology and several classic fossil sites.

The Doutnáč mountain, Veslařský ostrov island and Slovanský ostrov island are located in the surroundings of Kosoř. The Klapice hill [Praha-Radotín] is also nearby. The Kosoř–Černá rokle educational trail ends in Kosoř on Dolejší Street at a viewpoint overlooking Černá rokle.

Culture

The Chapel of Saint Anne in Kosoř is an immovable cultural monument that was added to a modernised small château in 1722. The chapel contains two bells dating from 1723, one larger and one smaller. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk erected in Kosoř in October 1895 is registered as a national cultural monument.

The surroundings of Kosoř also include Karlštejn Castle, the Kinský Palace, the Golz-Kinsky Palace and the Queen Anne’s Summer Palace.

History

Kosoř is first indirectly documented in written historical sources around 1310. The place name appears in the byname of the nobleman Valter of Kosoř, Walterus, miles de Cossor.
