Beroun is situated on the Berounka River and on the border of the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. The town combines this natural setting with preserved historical and cultural features.

Nature

The Ostrý educational trail provides information about the local flora and fauna. The three-kilometre route has ten information boards, four of which are educational boards with interactive elements.

Trails

At the northern edge of Beroun, the Václav Talich educational trail follows a 7 km blue route with a duration of approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, as well as a shorter 3.5 km green route. There are 14 stations in total covering the local flora, including rare plant species, the diverse fauna with a focus on birdlife, the valley’s geological features, and places associated with Václav Talich.

History

Beroun’s historic town centre was declared an urban heritage zone in 1992. Large sections of the town fortifications have been preserved, making Beroun one of the Czech towns with the best-preserved town walls.

Culture

The bear Kuba lives in the bear enclosure on Městská hora in Beroun. The bear enclosure is freely accessible all year round. Another tradition is the Beroun Pottery Market, held three times a year. The Beroun Pottery Museum has a fully operational ceramics workshop with a potter’s wheel and kiln.
