Vinařice combines a cadastral area located entirely within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area with a remarkably well-preserved village character. The town-planning structure and particularly high-quality original vernacular buildings shape the village just as much as the geological and historical evidence in its surroundings.
Village Character and Architectural Heritage
Examples of timber-built vernacular houses can be found in Vinařice. Neoclassical masonry buildings are concentrated around the village square, which is also home to a Baroque chapel dating from the 18th century. Different elements of the local architectural history are thus found in a close spatial relationship here.
Natural Environment
South of Vinařice lies Vysoká skála, a wooded geological site with natural outcrops and small old quarries. Fossil-bearing limestone is exposed at Vysoká skála; the surrounding terrain contains surface karst features. The site is also a paleontological locality whose protection within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area has been recommended.
Bacín is home to a prehistoric cult site with a narrow karst fissure just below the summit. The Bacín plateau contains traces of settlement dating from the Paleolithic through the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Hallstatt period and Middle Ages.
History and Surroundings
Karlštejn Castle is located in the vicinity of Vinařice. The mountains of Doutnáč, Hradec and Plešivec, as well as the Malá Svatá Hora church, are also located nearby. In the wider regional area lie Velký Chlum mountain and the ruins of Týřov Castle.
Getting Around
The Liteň–Vinařice section of the green-marked trail is suitable for mountain bikes.
