The Municipality of Stankovci has a strong connection to Lake Vrana, as well as natural and cultural sites within the municipality. The municipality’s southwestern boundary runs along the lakeshore. The area of Vransko jezero Nature Park within the municipality is protected under the Croatian Nature Protection Act. These two forms of protection give nature an important role in the character of the destination: the nature park focuses on the protected area, while “Ravni kotari” specifically protects species and habitats.
In nearby Vransko jezero Nature Park, a 40-kilometre panoramic trail runs around the lake. Cyclists and walkers use the route. Archaeology and Architectural History
The past can be seen in places and buildings from different eras. On a hill, the remains of Velim Castle form a rectangular fortification. The remains of two towers have survived, one older and one more recent. The castle was destroyed and burned down in 1684. Velim is also home to a settlement from the early Neolithic period, near the Širitovac and Velištak wells. The municipality also preserves the remains of a Roman villa rustica.
Another early site is the prehistoric hillfort of Ogradak in Stankovci. Hillforts of this kind were generally used for observation or defence. The signal tower in Budak dates from a later period marked by conflict: it was built during the Venetian–Ottoman wars as part of a whole chain of fortifications. Together, these examples show the different ways people secured or used places.
Churches also provide starting points for exploring cultural history. The Church of St. John in Banjevci is an architecturally and historically significant medieval building. The Church of St. Peter in Morpolača is associated with the 12th century in the heritage register. The cemetery Church of St. Mary is also included in the municipality’s register of cultural monuments. The road network offers additional guidance for getting around. The A1 motorway runs along the northern edge of the municipality. The D27 state road connects Gračac, Zaton Obrovački and Benkovac with Stankovci and Šibenik; county road Ž 6067 connects Bulić with Stankovci.
