Discover the Old Town’s history and art
The medieval town was built on the plan of a Hellenistic and Roman city. Kamerlengo Fortress was built between 1420 and 1437 on the southwestern side of the island where the historic Old Town is located. It also offers a vantage point over Trogir: from the tallest and oldest tower, you can enjoy a sweeping view of the town. Today, the building houses the Trogir City Museum.
The construction history of the two larger and smaller Cipicco, or Ćipiko, palaces also tells of the town’s older layers: they were created by joining Romanesque buildings. The Radovan Portal, dating from the 13th century, is especially well known in the Cathedral of St Lawrence (Sveti Lovre). The Museum of Sacred Art displays numerous religious artworks from the 13th to the 16th centuries. Some come from the cathedral, while others are from churches elsewhere in Trogir. Architecture, building history and sacred art therefore offer different ways of exploring the town’s past.
Explore Čiovo by bike
Several named cycling routes cross Čiovo, each with a different focus. The Čiovo section of the “Doživite Čiovo” route passes through Žedno and Arbanija. “Trogir s visoka” follows the route Čiovo – Balan – Žedno – Arbanija – Mastrinka – Balan Čiovo. The family and trekking cycling route “Čiovsko blago” starts and ends in Trogir and passes through Žedno. The road cycling route “Mistika otoka” passes through Žedno and Arbanija, among other places. Local character, beaches and cuisine
Garagnin-Fanfogna Park, locally also known as Garanjinov vrtal, was established around 1800 as an agricultural and experimental estate with parkland. It is home to more than 350 plant species. Most of Trogir’s beaches are in Arbanija on the island of Čiovo.
Savory dishes associated with Trogir include peka, brodetto and buzara. Another local specialty is Trogirski rafiol, a pastry with a long tradition in Trogir. Restaurant il Ponte serves traditional cuisine in a modern style; it also offers multi-course tasting menus with or without wine pairings. These provide different culinary experiences, from traditional specialties to a modern take on traditional cuisine.
Ferry connection and town pages
A seasonal ferry connects Trogir with Drvenik Veliki and Drvenik Mali, with several departures a day during the season. The maritime connection Drvenik Veli – Drvenik Mali – Trogir operates as a Jadrolinija route. When planning your trip, remember that this connection is seasonal. The Trogir Outdoor Festival traditionally takes place in May. The 56th Trogirsko kulturno ljeto features more than 100 cultural, entertainment and heritage events.
