Culture and History

Above Duće in Stomorica, the Church of Our Lady of the Snow was first mentioned in 1080; it was the first parish church for Duće. It includes a cemetery where monolithic stone slabs cover natural rock fissures.

The Church of St. Mark in Duće features Romanesque elements, while its bell gable bears Gothic characteristics. Its bell bears the year 1468. Until the new church was built, the Church of St. Mark served as the parish church; since 1864, it has been a cemetery church. The parish church of St. Anthony in Duće also dates from 1864 and was probably built on the site of an older chapel mentioned in 1748.

The Church of St. Mark in Stare Duće was built on the boundary between the territories of Duće and Jesenice. Stare Duće is an old village at the foot of Mount Mošnjica with well-preserved stone houses. It features a traditional layout with streets, small squares, centers near a church or school, and historic monuments. The Vojnović building complex in Duće was built in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Landscape and Coast

The rocky coastal ridge of Primorska lies above the old part of Duće; its highest peak, Zahod, rises to 594 m there. The ridge consists of Cretaceous limestone and features a pronounced karst landscape. The coastal ridge near Duće consists of steep limestone cliffs and has the character of a barren, rugged karst landscape.

Further along the coast between Dugi Rat and Omiš, a sandy beach approximately 3 km long stretches out with a shallow-water area 300 to 400 m wide that descends to a depth of 2 to 3 m. The beach was formed by sand deposits from the Cetina, which were carried west of its mouth by sea currents. The Duće Luka beach is listed as having parking, buoys, cafés, a beach shower, a bench, and sports facilities.

Cycling Routes

The official Ponor MTB route, Route 161, leads from Dugi Rat via Jesenice and Stare Duće and back, and is 9.2 km long with an elevation gain of 300 m.

The “Mitsko biciklističko putovanje” route is 16 km long, fully paved, and described as taking two hours to complete. At the entrance to Stare Duće, it has a 400 m section with an average gradient of 7%. As Route 175, it runs via Dugi Rat, Jesence, Zeljovići, Stare Duće, and Duće, returning to Dugi Rat. A trekking bike is ideal for this route; it can also be ridden with a gravel or MTB bike.

The official Ponor enduro route leads via Dugi Rat, Jesenice, and Stare Duće back to Dugi Rat. The Poskok enduro route follows the Put Stare Duće road and passes through Stare Duće.

Local Cuisine

Soparnik is described in connection with Duće as a traditional gastronomic specialty. In the taverns of Dugi Rat, visitors can try Soparnik, a specialty from Poljica that is listed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
