Dazlina: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

An elliptical dry-stone wall approximately 300 metres long encloses the settlement area of Gradina Stražbenica.

Landscape and archaeology

Gradina Stražbenica stands on the summit of the hill of the same name at an altitude of 163.2 metres, west of Vedro Polje and the hamlet of Matešići in Dazlina. The site is a prehistoric fortified hilltop settlement covering an area of approximately 0.6 hectares. Surface finds include prehistoric pottery fragments that can be dated to the Bronze Age and/or Iron Age.

The surrounding area of Dazlina includes Otočić Bisaga, Otočić Maslinjak, Otok Murter and Otočić Prišnjak. The wider regional area is home to Fort Saint Nicholas, Fort Saint Michael, Fort Saint John and Sveti Nikola.

Culture and history

The Church of St Elijah in Dazlina is listed among the monuments of the landscape that deserve special attention. Dazlina has been mentioned with its own parish since the beginning of the 13th century. Until 1522, the settlement belonged to the Diocese of Skradin, and later to the Diocese of Šibenik. In 1552, a confraternity of Saint Elias existed in Dazlina.

In connection with the historic parish of Dazlina, the Church of St Elijah is mentioned as part of this parish; an early cemetery was located around the church. Glagolitic was used during services at the Church of St Elijah.

Festivals and traditions

The feasts of Saint Elias and Saint Martin are considered major parish festivals, associated with a Mass in churches on the mainland. The celebration of Saint Elias in Dazlina included sung readings outside the church before Mass.
