Wine and Culture
A wine museum is located at Putnikovići 14 in Putniković. The Museum of Viticulture and Viniculture – Putniković is intended as a cultural centre and reference point for presenting the traditions of viticulture and winemaking on Pelješac. The museum complex includes a replica of a traditional Dalmatian house. Dom vinarske tradicije features exhibits and a tasting room within the Putniković winery.
The exhibition is spread over several levels. The ground floor focuses on preparation in the vineyard, grape processing, winemaking, cooperage, transport and wine sales. The exhibition on the first floor traces the history of the vine and viticulture from prehistoric evidence through the Bronze Age and Greek and Roman influences to later developments. The attic displays traditional crafts and equipment from the fields of shellfish farming, fishing, shepherding and textile production.
The museum offers guided tours in Croatian and English. There is a large car park in front of the museum building. The museum shop sells bottled wine from Pelješac, local olive oil, selected wine gift packages and souvenirs. In a tasting area, visitors can experience the traditional gastronomic and oenological traditions of the southern Adriatic region.
History and Sacred Buildings
The parish church of St. Mary Magdalene in Putniković was built in 1749. A Roman stele from the 1st or 2nd century is embedded in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Putniković also has several churches dating mainly from the 15th to the 17th century.
The Church of St. Anne in Putniković is considered a rare Baroque chapel that has been preserved in its original form.
Geographical Location
Putniković is located on county road 414 between Dubrave and Ponikve. This road connects the village with other larger settlements on Pelješac.
