Ilovik is nicknamed the Flower Island: almost every house is decorated with oleanders, palms, roses and other flowers. Eucalyptus trees are also among the island’s characteristic features.

Nature
Walking trails begin in the settlement of Ilovik and connect the bays on the other side of the island with the coast of Sućadrija Bay. The trails are suitable for hiking and mountain biking. The trail network includes the Did viewpoint. Ilovik’s official hiking map also shows footpaths, viewpoints, peaks, trailheads, walking times, and churches or chapels.
The route from Ilovik to Paržine Bay can be covered by bicycle. Paržine Bay has a sandy beach. Along the route from the centre of Ilovik, there is a twelve-metre-deep well with a freshwater spring.
Culture and History
The remains of a Roman villa lie on Sveti Petar, opposite Ilovik. The ruins of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery and a 16th-century Venetian tower are also located there.
The present-day parish church of St Peter and Paul in Ilovik dates from the 19th century. It was built in the settlement after the former Benedictine monastery church on Sveti Petar had become unsafe and difficult to reach. The remains of the 5th-century Church of St Andrew are also located on Ilovik, at Sućadrija Bay.
Tradition
Petrova traditionally includes a mass, a procession, the lighting of a Koleda fire and a folk festival. In 2026, the celebration in Ilovik was scheduled for 28 and 29 June; it was planned as a celebration in honour of St Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the island.
Getting Around and Local Life
A daily fast passenger service connects Rijeka with Cres, Martinšćica, Unije, Susak, Ilovik and Mali Lošinj. Organised transfers reach Ilovik from Mrtvaška Bay in 10 to 15 minutes.
Ilovik has a restaurant that has been run by the same family for more than 120 years.
