Springs, a lake and waterside trails

In the wider Vrbovsko travel area, Kamačnik lies outside Jakšići. This protected significant landscape includes a 3.2-kilometre watercourse. The source of the Kamačnik is also part of the Natura 2000 network: endemic underground crustaceans recorded there include Monolistra sp. and Niphargus sp. This natural area therefore offers two different perspectives: the visible watercourse and an underground animal world that is not readily seen.

Another waterside spot is nearby Lake Čogrljevo in Moravice. Five small springs feed the lake, and the “Vede” waterfall dams the water. A path along the edge of a coniferous forest passes by the springs. With patience and a keen eye, you may also spot a brown trout there. The description thus combines a walk along the edge of the forest with views of the springs, waterfall and lake.

Trails for walking and cycling

The nearby Riblje–Lesci trail runs right along the Kupa River. It is 2.6 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of 45 minutes. There is a spot where you can swim in summer. This sets the trail apart from the cycling routes in the area: it has a specific walking time and a seasonal swimming opportunity.

For the cycling routes, their length and difficulty rating help distinguish between the options. The Dobra–Lake Čogrljevo route is 18.4 kilometres long and rated easy; it ends in nearby Moravice. The Vrbovsko–Gomirje–Kamačnik cycling route is shorter, at 15.7 kilometres, but is rated moderate. Here, the route’s length alone does not indicate its difficulty rating.

If you are interested in an experience centred on sound, Kamačnik has the Panova staza, a themed sensory and acoustic trail. Its five musical educational instruments include a gong, xylophone, horn, bells and a stream organ. This gives the trail a different focus from routes where distance, walking time or difficulty rating provide the main guidance.

Culture and artistic traces

The Ivan Goran Kovačić HPM Memorial Museum is located in the poet’s birth house. Its permanent exhibition tells the story of his life and work and is divided into five themed sections. It offers a biographical perspective, distinct from the outdoor artworks and regional traditions.

The “Staza skulptura – Park mladih umjetnika Plemenitaš” sculpture trail features 16 outdoor sculptures and can be visited year-round. The Plemenitaš Workshop, in turn, has a collection of 250 contemporary ceramic works. Visits are possible during the summer season or by prior arrangement. The workshop also offers its premises for excursions, summer schools in nature and anti-stress workshops; arrange your participation in advance.

The gallery in the exhibition space of the Town of Vrbovsko has a permanent exhibition dedicated to the town’s heraldic heritage. In Moravice, there is also the Orthodox Church of the Holy Great Martyr George, dating from 1900. Together, these places offer different ways to explore culture, from literature and crafts to local history and religious heritage.
