Gomirje is home to the monastery and the Church of Saint John the Forerunner. The monastery is considered the westernmost Orthodox monastery in Europe. The monastery and the Church of Saint John the Forerunner are listed as places to visit. The first monastery was established in 1600, while the present-day church was built between 1719 and 1722.

Culture
The monastery's religious and cultural calendar includes the annual Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God, known locally as Velika Gospojna, which takes place on 28 August.
The Cvjetni korzo Gomirje is a local tradition that welcomes spring and symbolises the awakening of nature and the beginning of new life. After a 47-year interruption, this tradition was revived. During the procession, decorated participants, led by a horse-drawn carriage, make their way through the village.
The Gomirje Harmonika Mundijal also shapes the cultural programme. In 2025, the festival reached its seventh international edition and had developed from a two-day event into a one-week festival. Traditionally, the opening evening is held at Gomirje Monastery. The festival includes a camp for young accordionists from various parts of Croatia; the programme also features a folklore showcase with 13 groups from all over Croatia. The completed 2025 festival featured performances by folklore groups from across Croatia and concluded with an event at the NK Gomirje football pitch. The Mundijal was intended to continue in the following years.
Nature
Gomirje is considered a place with numerous waterways and drinking-water springs. Preserved meadows and pastures are surrounded by beech and fir forests. These forests are home to numerous European plant and animal species.
Routes
The designated Vrbovsko–Gomirje–Kamačnik route runs from Vrbovsko via Luke to Gomirje. As a cycling route, it is 15.7 kilometres long and is classified as moderately challenging.
